I put out a last minute plea on Facebook in 2008, asking if anyone wanted to come over and wrap presents for 'some kids'. I was astonished and grateful when a handful of friends I had not seen in years showed up bearing rolls of wrapping paper the following night.
On Monday, December 17th, we expect over 100 people to gather and wrap over 2000 gifts at our 5th Annual Project Believe Wrap Party. I will forever be astonished and grateful, even as the first wrapper arrives. Those who sat on my living room floor wrapping a small bag of gifts just a few years ago, understand the magic of watching this grow and being a part of something so awesome. I promise you won't want to miss it!
It's fun and it's FREE! It's a great way to get your friends, family, coworkers, and the community together for a few 'feel good' hours during the mad rush of the holiday season. There's a place for everyone. We've had volunteers from ages 1 to 93. It's your chance to see what YOU, what WE made happen. People will be talking about this. I promise you won't want to miss it!
CrossRoads Christian Fellowship has not only graciously opened their doors to us once again, but have more than doubled our workspace this year to accommodate our growth! They are also offering several donation drop-off times for your convenience:
- Friday, November 30th, 6-8pm
- Friday, December 7th, 6-8pm (also stay for their Family Fun Night!)
- Friday, December 14th, 6-8pm (last day for donations)
Since we published our initial 'must have' list, we took 30 more kids under our wing. We are now providing Christmas to 65 children at two hospitals, ages 7 to 18. There is no such thing as too much of anything. All donations must be new and meet hospital safety requirements: nothing breakable or sharp, no glass, no metal, no wire, no string, no toy weapons.
There are still a few 'must have' items we are looking for, but additional suggestions are:
- playing cards
- journals
- games
- puzzles
- coloring/activity books
- art supplies
- wallets
- makeup (with NO mirrors please)
- craft items
- lip balm
- gum and candy
- watches
- toy cars
- hair accessories
- CDs
- DVDs
- handmade scarves and hats through our Granny Scarves Program
- What any child would want for Christmas . . . This is all these kids will receive.
